Afrosa Ahmed

Dr Afrosa Ahmed is a medical doctor, mindfulness coach, and author of Mindful Healing (2024). She has worked as a GP in the NHS and private practice for more than twenty years and delivers specialist mindfulness teaching to healthcare professionals and students across the UK.

Afrosa Ahmed graduated in medicine from King’s College London and went on to practise as a GP in both community and private settings, including clinics in Harley Street. Alongside clinical work, she developed a specialist interest in mindfulness, gaining qualifications from the UK College of Mindfulness Meditation.

She holds training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, both approved by the British Psychological Society, and is an accredited teacher on the Mindfulness Teachers Register.

Ahmed has taught Mindfulness and Health within The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, and lectures at universities including University College London and King’s College London. Ahmed delivers sessions to medical consultants, junior doctors, nurses and healthcare students, presenting mindfulness as a practical complement to clinical practice. Her writing includes articles published in the United Kingdom and the United States.

In 2020, she launched MindfulDoc, a life-coaching programme that incorporates clinical history into personalised wellbeing guidance. The programme works with medical and healthcare professionals to support lifestyle change through a combined medical and mindfulness approach. She also mentors sixth-form and gap-year students applying to medical school, drawing on her experience as an interviewer, tutor, and examiner.

Her book Mindful Healing offers a five-step system designed to support confidence, resilience, sleep, focus and emotional wellbeing. Ahmed combines medical knowledge with meditation techniques, stating that “medicine and meditation share the same Latin root word.”

Mindful Healing focuses on how shifting mental habits can influence overall health, using medically based meditations that can be applied over five weeks.

Dr Afrosa Ahmed lives in London.
