Felix Francis

Felix Francis is a British crime writer best known for continuing the acclaimed Dick Francis series of thrillers after the death of his father in 2010. His latest novel, No Reserve (2023), is a suspenseful tale set in the world of bloodstock auctions, combining murder and intrigue with the sharp storytelling fans of the series have come to expect.

Born in 1953, Felix grew up immersed in the writing process of his father's novels. He recalls that their family discussions often revolved around imaginative plots and the technical details of crime. "The production of a Dick Francis novel was always a mixture of inspiration, perspiration and teamwork," he said. This environment laid the foundations for his later work.

Felix studied physics and electronics at London University before starting a 17-year teaching career, including seven years as head of science at Bloxham School in Oxfordshire. After leaving teaching, he spent over a decade as Vice Chairman of World Challenge Expeditions Ltd, honing his leadership skills before entering the world of literature.

Over the years, Felix has worked extensively with his father on the research and writing of many novels, bringing his expertise in physics to Twice Shy and his background as an international marksman to Shattered. After the death of Dick's wife, Mary, a key collaborator, in 2000, Felix took on an even more significant role in the creative process. This father-son partnership often involved detailed plot discussions at Dick's home in the Cayman Islands.

Felix co-wrote Dead Heat (2007), Silks (2008) and Even Money (2009) with his father, a collaboration that culminated in Crossfire (2010), the last book they worked on together before Dick's death. Since then, Felix has written twelve more novels in the Dick Francis series, continuing the themes of suspense and equestrian intrigue. His books include Gamble (2011), Refusal (2013) and Crisis (2018), each extending the series' legacy while incorporating Felix's distinctive voice.

In No Reserve (2023), Felix continues his father's tradition of combining the world of horse racing with gripping crime stories. The story follows Theo Jennings, an auctioneer whose life is turned upside down after a series of murders linked to a prized yearling colt. As Theo struggles to clear his name, Felix masterfully weaves suspense and emotional depth into the story.
