John Fullerton

John Fullerton grew up in apartheid South Africa. He worked as a reporter at the Cape Times before joining the Morning Telegraph in Sheffield. In February 1981 he set off for Peshawar in Pakistan to cover the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan as a freelancer. During the Cold War he worked as a ‘head agent’ on contract to the Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6. In late 1983 he joined Reuters in Hong Kong and worked as a correspondent and editor for 20 years in 40 countries and covered a dozen wars. He was bureau chief in Beirut and Cairo and worked as Middle East diplomatic correspondent based in Nicosia. Fullerton has an MA and is the author of five novels and one work of non-fiction. He is married with three children and when not travelling lives in Scotland. His interests include Scottish affairs and meditation.
