To Phil, a Very Special Person
In my autobiography “I’m Still Singing”, I recognized that
by 2013 Phil and I were no longer playing tennis, entertaining Gilbert and Sullivan operettas on cruise ships, or traveling to far-away places.
It is now 2014, another change has taken place. Phil, at the
tender age of 89, has decided to fully retire from arbitration.
Looking back 65 years, I recall vividly that my attraction to Phil was four-fold: his handsome good looks, his sense of humor, his intellect and the many interests held dear: birds, butterflies, classical music, astronomy, and ME!!!
He amazed me as he named a bird from its call, butterflies
from their colors, classical music compositions and composers from the first few bars played, and constellations and first magnitude stars. His focus on these topics has kept him an interested and interesting senior citizen.
This ability to be productive in the latter years is his legacy to our family.
